Africa GreenCo Group (GreenCo) says it has launched a Request for Information (RFI) for the supply of up to 25MW/100MWh of energy storage capacity from a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Zambia.

Chikoma Kazunga, Head of Business Development GreenCo, indicated that the initiative marked a critical step in strengthening the country’s grid stability and accelerating renewable energy integration.

In a statement issued on Monday, Kazunga emphasized the significance of the project in advancing Zambia’s energy infrastructure.

“This RFI represents an exciting step forward in supporting renewable energy integration and enhancing grid stability in Zambia,” Kazunga stated.

GreenCo is seeking input from BESS operators and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors to assess viable technical solutions, indicative pricing, and project structuring options.

According to Kazunga, the RFI aims to identify viable battery energy storage providers, evaluate technical solutions, obtain indicative pricing, and refine the project’s procurement structure.

Additionally, Kazunga stated that the feedback from stakeholders would help shape the final Request for Proposal expected in the second half of 2025.

He pointed out that participation in the RFI does not guarantee a contract award but would be a key factor in the upcoming competitive procurement process.
