Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Mulambo Haimbe, has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema will undertake a State Visit to Japan from February 3 to February 7, 2025, at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
Haimbe described the visit as a milestone in strengthening Zambia-Japan bilateral relations, rooted in shared values and mutual aspirations.
During the visit, President Hichilema will engage in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Ishiba, focusing on trade and investment promotion.
Key highlights include the signing of Memoranda of Understanding in strategic sectors to enhance collaboration.
“The President will also hold bilateral engagements with officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Fujita Corporation, the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security, and Toyota Corporation,” Haimbe stated.
Discussions will target investments in road infrastructure, renewable energy, and other development initiatives.
President Hichilema’s itinerary includes site visits in Nagoya and Kyoto to leading manufacturing companies and a waste-to-energy treatment facility. He will also deliver a keynote address at the Zambia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo on February 6, 2025.
“This visit offers an invaluable platform to deepen bilateral cooperation and explore opportunities in trade, renewable energy, healthcare, and education. Japan’s leadership in innovation and technology provides immense potential for mutually beneficial partnerships,” Haimbe added.
President Hichilema is expected to return to Zambia on February 8, 2025.
