Former Kasenengwa Constituency lawmaker Sensio Banda has criticized the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) for its inadequate communication strategies, accusing the party of relying on state police threats and arrests to manage political dissent.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, Banda argued that the UPND’s approach not only tarnishes its image but also damages its credibility.
“In politics, perception is crucial. How information is presented can either build or break a party’s standing,” Banda said, noting that the party’s use of threats and arrests to silence opposition undermines its democratic standing.
Banda also highlighted internal disorganization within the party’s communication team.

He pointed out that responses to criticisms often lacked coordination, with senior officials stepping in instead of designated spokespersons.
He urged the UPND to reassess its communication approach, particularly as the 2026 elections approach. “The party must shift from using threats to a more proactive strategy that engages the public and addresses concerns directly,” Banda advised.
He stated that the UPND should invest in building a strong communication team capable of effectively countering opposing narratives and fostering constructive dialogue.
