Party leader, Kunda, joins calls for overhaul of police command following corruption allegations

There must be a complete overhaul of the Zambia Police top command, says the Zambia Wake Up Party (ZAWAPA).

The action was a response to a seemingly widespread culture of corruption, violence and dereliction of duty allegedly ingrained within the highest ranks.

ZAWAPA president, Howard Kunda, said in a statement on Saturday that said this was evidenced by the recent dismissal of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Milner Muyambango.

Kunda alluded to a larger pattern of bureaucratic incompetence, suggesting that a single dismissal cannot correct the more profound, structural flaws at play within the Zambia Police Service.

“This stark portrayal of a police service failing to fulfil its mandate as protectors of the people underscores the pressing need for reforms,” he said.

Kunda emphasised that there was need for reforms to bring sanity in the service, stressing that the country needed a police service which was impartial.
