The Zambia Police has declared the planned Tonse Alliance mega rally in Lusaka’s Mandevu Constituency, scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2025, as unlawful due to non-compliance with legal requirements.
A Facebook post titled “Tonse Alliance to hold a mega rally in Mandevu Constituency this Weekend” surfaced on the page “Patriotic Front – PF,” sparking public interest.
Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, in a statement issued on Wednesday, clarified that no formal notification had been submitted to the police as required under the Public Order Act, Chapter 113 of the Laws of Zambia.
“To date, no formal notification has been submitted to the police, and as such, no legal consideration for this gathering has been done,” Hamoonga said.

He reminded the public and political parties that public rallies, processions, or gatherings must comply with the law to ensure adequate security measures are in place.
Hamoonga urged citizens to disregard the rally announcement and avoid gathering at the venue, warning that any event held without meeting legal requirements would be deemed unlawful.
“The Zambia Police Service further urges members of the public to refrain from gathering at the said venue,” he added.
The police spokesperson appealed for cooperation from political parties and stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of engaging law enforcement through proper channels to ensure peaceful and lawful events.
Hamoonga assured the nation of police commitment to maintaining public peace and safety.
