The government has announced that the construction of Nsama General Hospital in Northern Province is nearing completion, with the project now reportedly at 95 percent progress.

Northern Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Mpundu, during an inspection on Wednesday, expressed optimism that the hospital would be completed within a month.

He noted that the facility would provide much-needed quality healthcare services to residents of Nsumbu, Nsama, and surrounding districts.

Speaking during the inspection, Mpundu emphasized the project’s significance to the local community.

“This hospital is a blessing to the people of Nsumbu and Nsama because, since God created this world, they have never had a hospital. This is the first of its kind,” he said, adding that the community is eagerly awaiting the facility’s commissioning.

Acting Provincial Health Director, Dr. Mayeya Mayeya, highlighted that the hospital would not only address immediate healthcare needs but also pave the way for expanded health initiatives in the region.

Nsama District Health Director, Dr. Vanaciol Banda, added that the completion of the hospital would help reduce financial burdens currently faced by the district, especially in cases where patients must be referred to other facilities for treatment.

Mpundu noted that the completion of Nsama General Hospital aligned with Zambia’s broader efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the country, ensuring communities have access to modern medical facilities and services.
