The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has sued Reliable Utilities Zambia Limited (RUZ), a Kitwe-based company, for breaching a contract to supply 6,800 KoPa-branded football match balls and failing to pay K500,000 in annual royalty fees.
According to a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, FAZ General-Secretary, Reuben Kamanga, disclosed that the two parties entered into a four-year agreement in November 2023.
The contract required RUZ to provide 7,000 FIFA-tested and certified KoPa-branded match balls annually and pay royalties to FAZ for the right to market the products.
RUZ was also obligated to remit eight percent of sponsorship revenue from the match balls to FAZ.
However, the company allegedly delivered only 200 footballs and failed to pay the royalties or share sponsorship revenue.
FAZ is seeking damages for breach of contract, an order compelling RUZ to account for sponsorship revenue, and a directive to remit the agreed percentage to the association.
FAZ claims that RUZ’s actions have caused financial and operational challenges.
