The Zambian government has directed Zambia Airways to acquire a second Boeing 737-800 aircraft to meet the increasing demand for flights.
Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali, stated government’s commitment to supporting the national airline during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Zambia Airways, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Zambia Airports Corporation Limited, and the Industrial Development Corporation.
“The government acknowledges public concerns about the national airline and convened this meeting to address operational challenges,” Tayali said.

Zambia Airways Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Woldesenbet, acknowledged the public’s feedback and pledged to resolve the issues raised.
Civil Aviation Authority Director General, Derrick Luembe, disclosed that the Authority had conducted a thorough inspection of Zambia Airways’ aircraft following public complaints.
“The inspection identified various concerns, and we have instructed Zambia Airways to address these issues promptly,” Luembe stated.
The meeting underscored government’s push for operational excellence and improved service delivery as the national airline seeks to solidify its role as Zambia’s flag carrier.
