Newly appointed ZANACO Football Club coach, Numba Mumamba, has set his sights on saving the struggling side from relegation in the current Premier League season.
Mumamba, who replaced Wedson Nyirenda at Sunset Stadium, stated that his primary task was to ensure the team avoided the drop.
Last month, ZANACO parted ways with Nyirenda following a series of disappointing results.
David Chilufya briefly took charge, but the team’s fortunes did not improve under his leadership.
Now in a precarious position, ZANACO has turned to Mumamba, who led the team to league glory in 2016.
In a bold move, Mumamba has left third-placed Kabwe Warriors to return to the club where he once played.
At his unveiling, Mumamba expressed his commitment to the challenge ahead.
“I am here to try and work hard to save this team from relegation. Looking at where the team is seated, we are not where we are supposed to be, but with good teamwork from all of us, it is something that is achievable,” he said.
ZANACO currently sits in the relegation zone with 17 points from 18 matches played so far this season. The team will be aiming to bounce back as the league resumes this weekend.
Despite the challenge, Mumamba remains undaunted, acknowledging that stepping into the ZANACO role is a risky venture.
“Life is about taking challenges. When Zanaco approached me, it was a challenge I had to take,” he explained.
