The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has secured the conviction of Davison Banda, a 27-year-old resident, who was sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labor for obstructing a Council cashier in Longacres.
Banda appeared before the Fast Track Court at the Civic Centre on November 28, 2024, where he pleaded guilty to the offense.
He was fined K6,000 or, in default of payment, sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labor.
In a separate incident, Erick and Martin Ngaboziza, brothers aged 22 and 27 from Lusaka’s Chinika area, were arrested for obstructing Council officers and operating a bar outside permitted hours.
Both individuals appeared before the Fast Track Court on December 27, 2024, where they pleaded guilty to the charges.
Erick and Martin were fined after being charged with obstructing officers, while Martin faced an additional charge for early opening of his bar, an offense under the Liquor Licensing Act No. 20 of 2011.
LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager Nyambe Bulumba urged residents and business operators to cooperate with Council officers, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public order and safety in the city.
He reaffirmed the Local Authority’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that its officers could perform their duties without hindrance.
