Konkola Mine says it’s probing attempt to dupe company of $54,000 through supply of fake materials

Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) has foiled an attempt by a supplier to deliver counterfeit solvents, preventing a potential loss of US$64,000.

In a statement released on Saturday, KCM’s corporate affairs department confirmed that the incident occurred when a tanker containing the solvents was delivered to the company’s premises by a supplier’s driver, who is now at large.

Independent tests revealed that the tanker actually contained water instead of the expected solvents.

“We take the quality and safety of our raw materials very seriously,” stated Chief Operating Officer Malcolm Mewett. “We will not tolerate any attempts to compromise our operations or put our employees or assets at risk.”

Mewett added that KCM was collaborating closely with the Zambia Police to ensure that those responsible were held accountable.

“The incident is under investigation, and we are fully cooperating with the Zambia Police to ensure justice is served,” he said.
