TOP action scrabble returns to action this weekend with the staging of the Scrabble Master’s Tournament.

The two-day tournament billed for Tecla Lodge in Lusaka is exclusive for the top 12 players from the National Championships.

Scrabble Association of Zambia (SAZ) Vice-President Chipika Simawe said participation fee has been pegged at K300 per player in this tournament to be played on CSW24 format.

Collins Scrabble Words (CSW, formerly SOWPODS) is the word list used in English-language tournament Scrabble in most countries except the US, Thailand and Canada.

Simawe said 18 games will determine the champion

This tournament should have been held much earlier and the SAZ leadership has expressed remorse at its delayed organisation.

“We sincerely apologize for the delay in hosting the Masters Tournament immediately following the Nationals. Your patience and understanding as we worked to finalise logistics for a successful and prestigious event are greatly appreciated,” he said.

According to the prize structure, the winner will walk away with K5,000.00 and a trophy while the runner up will pocket K3,500.00 plus a trophy.

“We look forward to this prestigious tournament,” Simawe said.
With a contribution of more than K20,000, KoBold metals, a mining company is the major sponsor of the event.
