A group of Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament has urged former president Edgar Lungu to retire from active politics following the Constitutional Court’s ruling on his eligibility for the 2026 general elections.

Notable MPs in the group included Kantanshi’s Anthony Mumba, Chipangali’s Andrew Lubusha, Chama South’s Davison Mungandu, and Muchinga’s Robert Chabinga, among others.

At a media briefing on Wednesday at the Parliament Media Center in Lusaka, Mumba, speaking on behalf of the group, also called on President Hakainde Hichilema to engage in dialogue with Lungu to ease political tensions in the country.

“We respectfully appeal to President Lungu to retire from active politics, embrace his role as a statesman, and support President Hichilema in advancing national development,” Mumba said.

He emphasized the importance of healing political tensions and fostering unity for a brighter future that benefits all Zambians.

Mumba added that the PF must now focus on reorganisation and strengthen its leadership to remain a viable political force.

“It is time for us to unite, put our differences aside, and put our house in order,” Mumba stated.

“We also urge our members to cease the misuse of President Lungu’s image, as it only serves to humiliate and undermine his legacy.”
