The Zambian government has reportedly flagged off 10 water boats worth K9.8 million to enhance access to education in 10 districts, which include Zambezi, Chavuma, Mpulungu, and Siavonga.

Speaking at the launch in Lusaka on Friday, Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, said the initiative aimed to address transportation challenges faced by learners and education administrators in remote areas.

Syakalima stated that the boats symbolized the government’s commitment to providing inclusive and equitable education in alignment with Zambia’s National Development Plans and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4.

He was quoted as saying, “The boats are not just vessels but an opportunity to enhance a better future for thousands of learners.”

The initiative, it is said, would ease transportation across Zambia’s vast water systems, ensuring that children in remote areas are no longer hindered by the inaccessibility of schools.

The boats are also expected to help education administrators conduct inspections in far-flung locations.

Syakalima expressed gratitude to his ministry and collaborators, including the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, for their support in advancing the country’s education agenda.

“The initiative represents the government’s continued dedication to improving education access across Zambia,” Syakalima said.
