Police in Kitwe are investigating the murder of a security guard employed by Saloba Limited, whose body was discovered with deep cuts on the head after an apparent robbery at the company’s premises.
Copperbelt Police Chief, Peacewell Mweemba, confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the victim, aged between 48 and 50, had severe head injuries.
A wheel spanner and a wheelbarrow were found nearby. The body has been deposited at the Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary.
The robbery, which occurred between 03:00 and 06:00 hours on Saturday, November 30, 2024, saw the thieves make away with items valued at over K42,000, including three shock absorbers, a chainsaw, four heavy-duty batteries, and a truck wheel.
Mweemba said the murder was reported by Kingfred Kampamva, 51, a security manager at Saloba Limited, who found the guard, Chrispin Chibuye, lying dead in a bush between the company and Mindolo Secondary School.
Chibuye had reported for duty the evening prior, taking over from the day shift guard.
The police investigation revealed that officers from the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC), traveling from Chingola to Kitwe early Saturday morning, became suspicious of a parked Toyota Corolla near Deniz Block Company.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the taxi driver inside said he had been hired to transport stolen batteries.

An ambush was set up near the scene, but the suspects fled into the darkness when confronted.
Despite firing warning shots, police were unable to apprehend the suspects.
The taxi driver later led officers to the location where he was hired, which helped police confirm the break-in at Saloba Limited.
The company’s gate was slightly open, and upon inspection, the storeroom was found ransacked.
While some stolen items have been recovered, no arrests have been made.
Police have opened a docket for murder and aggravated robbery as the investigation continues.
