Zambia will host the National Skills, Productivity, and Jobs Summit from December 3 to 4, 2024, at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

The event, themed “Bridging the Skills, Employment, and Productivity Gap,” aims to tackle unemployment, skills mismatches, and productivity challenges.

Labour and Social Security Minister, Brenda Tambatamba, announced the development during a media briefing on Wednesday.

She noted that the summit would connect job seekers with employers while promoting work-based learning initiatives, such as internships and apprenticeships.

“The conference will also foster policy dialogue and strategies to enhance productivity and inclusive employment practices,” Tambatamba said.

President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to deliver the keynote address and officially open the summit.

Tambatamba encouraged youths and the general public to take part in the event and leverage the opportunities it will present.

The minister also urged the media to actively promote and support the summit.

“Various industry experts will deliver presentations and engage in panel discussions on labour policies, skills development, and productivity strategies,” she added.

Other activities included exhibitions showcasing job opportunities, innovations, and skills programs, as well as networking sessions to enhance collaboration among stakeholders.

Tambatamba highlighted the summit’s expected outcomes, including immediate job placements, work-based learning opportunities, policy recommendations, and strengthened collaboration between industries and training institutions.

“These initiatives aim to drive productivity strategies that support economic growth,” Tambatamba stated.
