The World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature Zambia has highlighted the need for innovations in renewable energy, such as biogas, solar panels, wind turbines and hydroelectric systems to revolutionaries the energy sector in the country.
WWF Zambia Country Director. Nalucha Ziba, said the technologies provide clean and sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel-based energy sources, reducing Green House Gas emissions and promoting a transition to low Carbon economy.
Ziba said this during the Pachipandq Innovation Challenge Pitch Day held at the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS) in Lusaka on Saturday.
She noted the need for innovations in green building materials and construction techniques which focus on improving energy efficiency, reducing Carbon emmissions, and enhancing sustainability.
“Examples include the use of recycled materials, green insulation, and energy efficient designs that minimize the environmental impact of buildings,” Ziba stated.
She observed the need to have climate smart agricultural practices and technologies such as precision agriculture techniques-resistant crop varieties, agroforestry systems, and water efficient irrigation methods that aim to enhance agricultural productivity.
Ziba stressed the need for advancement in climate fate collection, analysis, and monitoring to enable better understanding of climate change patterns and help in making informed decisions.
“Remote sensing technologies, climate modeling, and data visualization tools contribute to effective climate change management and adaptation strategies,” she said.
Ziba emphasized the need for innovations in the circular economy to minimize waste generating, promote recycling and use, and reduce resource consumption.
Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Art Deputy Director of Sports Gibson Munyaule said the PachiPanda Innovation Challenger was an absolute game changer in the transformation of Zambia’s conservation landscape.

Munyaule noted the need to increase conservation awareness in Zambia amid the climate change crisis because the world was full of environmental threats.
“It is for this reason that the government supports initiatives such as the PachiPanda Innovation Challenge that seeks to find climate smart solutions to this global issue,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abbad Rea, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Zambia said the Look PachiPanda Innovation aligns with Zambia’s national development goals and supports critical priorities like energy, water management, and environmental sustainability.
“It also contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 13 (Climate Action),” Rea said.
