ZAMTEL has initiated legal proceedings to reclaim an Ndola property occupied by former Lusaka Province Minister, Bowman Lusambo, citing over K500,000 in unpaid rent.
According to a Lusaka High Court judgment dated July 29, 2024, Lusambo has been ordered to vacate the Kabelenga Road property in Ndola and pay K590,000 in outstanding rent, plus interest.
Following this ruling, ZAMTEL filed a writ of possession on Tuesday to enforce the eviction and regain control of the property.
Court documents revealed that ZAMTEL alleged Lusambo used his position as Copperbelt Minister to assume control of the property without signing a formal lease.
The company contended that it never agreed to any renovations before a lease was formalized.
The dispute dates back to 2021, when Zamtel filed a lawsuit against Lusambo in the Lusaka High Court, demanding K590,000 in unpaid rent and immediate possession of the house.

ZAMTEL described Lusambo as a “problematic tenant.”
In response, Lusambo counterclaimed that ZAMTEL owed him K2 million for renovations, asserting there was an oral agreement with ZAMTEL’s then-Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mupanga Mwanakatwe, to allow deduction of renovation expenses from his monthly rent.
However, ZAMTEL stated in an affidavit that Lusambo deliberately delayed signing the lease agreement, despite multiple requests to complete the process.
