The government has reportedly released K500 million to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to facilitate payments to remaining farmers who supplied maize across the country.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, FRA Public Relations Coordinator, John Chipandwe, confirmed that the funds had been transferred to banks nationwide for distribution to eligible farmers.

Chipandwe urged banks to expedite the payments, enabling farmers to purchase inputs in preparation for the upcoming farming season.

“The Agency extends its gratitude to farmers for their patriotism and positive response during this year’s crop marketing season,” he said.

Chipandwe noted that, despite a partial drought, the FRA was able to secure over half a million metric tonnes of maize, attributing this success to the dedication and patience shown by farmers.

He expressed confidence that all farmers who deliver maize by the close of the extended marketing season on November 30, 2024, would receive their payments in full.
