Attorney-General, Mulilo Kabesha, has filed a lawsuit in the Lusaka High Court against former National Assembly accounts assistant, Machila Ngoma, seeking over K600,000 in allegedly mismanaged funds.
The claim accused Ngoma of fraudulent handling of K760,525.05 while working for the National Assembly, a charge he denied.
Initially hired as a cashier in 2018 and promoted to accounts assistant in 2021, Ngoma was charged on February 23, 2022, under the National Assembly’s Disciplinary Code and Procedures.
He was found guilty in a hearing on March 11, leading to his dismissal on April 1, 2022, approved by the Speaker of the National Assembly.

The Ministry of Finance and National Planning subsequently calculated that Ngoma owed K672,074.89.
Despite a demand letter issued on August 17, 2023, Ngoma had not settled the debt, expressing surprise at the allegations in his response on August 25.
The Attorney General is now seeking repayment of K672,074.89 plus interest.
