Zambia has entered into an agreement with the USAID Business Enabling Project to promote a supportive business environment for the private sector.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday between the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry and the USAID Business Enabling Project.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Crusivia Hichikumba, the Permanent Secretary in charge of Investment and Industrialisation, described the agreement as a shared commitment to fostering an ecosystem where businesses can thrive and contribute to Zambia’s economic growth.

“The Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry is dedicated to creating a business-friendly environment to support private sector growth,” Hichikumba said.

“This partnership is aimed at building an environment where businesses can innovate and drive national economic development.”

Hichikumba highlighted that a strong private sector was essential for job creation, innovation and sustainable growth.

However, achieving these objectives required a supportive environment where businesses can operate smoothly, access necessary resources and navigate regulatory processes with ease, he noted.

“The USAID Business Enabling Project has been a steadfast partner in our journey toward these goals,” he added, noting that the agreement will establish a framework for programmes addressing key challenges faced by the business community.

“This collaboration reflects our commitment to aligning with international best practices and utilising global expertise to tackle local challenges,” Hichikumba said.

He added that USAID’s experience would be invaluable in advancing a more competitive and inclusive economy in Zambia.

Hichikumba expressed confidence that the partnership would bring substantial benefits to both the business community and the economy at large.

“Together, we will build a business environment that meets today’s needs while anticipating future opportunities and challenges,” he concluded.
