More than 40 Ethiopian companies have expressed interest in partnering with Zambian firms in the areas of manufacturing and trade, according to Zambian authorities.
This development was announced during a Trade and Investment Promotion Forum organised by the Zambian Embassy in Addis Ababa, which attracted over 100 companies from both nations.
The Forum aimed to facilitate an increase in mutually beneficial trade and investment between Zambia and Ethiopia, as noted in a statement issued by Inutu Mwanza, Zambia’s First Secretary for Press and Tourism in Addis Ababa.
In her address to the Forum, Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Rose Sakala, highlighted that participating companies showed particular interest in sectors such as manufacturing, processing, and the production of truck parts and textiles.
“Other sectors where interest was expressed include renewable energy, mining, tourism, real estate, and agriculture,” Sakala stated.
Additionally, there was notable interest in trading various products such as coffee, leather goods, cassava flour, minerals, precious stones, honey, and tea.
Sakala commended the excellent relations between Zambia and Ethiopia, reaffirming the Zambian Government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
“This collaboration would significantly contribute to the development of both countries in line with their shared vision of economic transformation,” she remarked.

She cited the partnership between Ethiopian Airlines and Zambia Airways as a model that could encourage further Ethiopian investment in Zambia.
The Embassy collaborated with various authorities from both countries, including government ministries, the Zambia Development Agency, the Ethiopian Investment Commission and the chambers of commerce from both nations.
“The Forum aligns with decisions made under the Zambia-Ethiopia Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation, aimed at enhancing collaboration in various economic sectors,” Sakala added.
She noted that it also adhered to the Agreement on Economic, Science and Technology Cooperation between Zambia and Ethiopia, as well as the agreement between the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
