Lusaka court hears claims of rape, allegations of K1000 consultation charges against Bishop Nundwe

The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has heard that John Nundwe, also known as Bishop John General, allegedly charges K1,000 for personal consultation sessions.

Nundwe, the overseer of Miracle Impact Ministries International in Matero Township, is facing trial on charges of raping a married member of his congregation.

According to court testimony, the alleged incident occurred on November 24 when Nundwe visited the victim’s home to pray for her following multiple miscarriages.

However, the victim has accused Nundwe of raping her instead.

During cross-examination, the victim’s husband testified that Nundwe was accompanied by another individual on the day of the alleged rape.

The defence lawyer questioned the husband, asking if the person who accompanied Nundwe had pushed the victim into the bedroom.

The husband confirmed this but acknowledged that only Nundwe was facing the rape charge, despite the alleged involvement of the other person.

The husband also testified that he had escorted his wife to the police and obtained a medical report, though he was not shown the contents of the report by the police.

When questioned about the K1,000 payment to the accused, the husband stated that his wife informed him of Nundwe’s consultation fee.

He confirmed that she had received instructions at the church regarding the use of anointing oil and water, and that prayers were to be conducted at their home.

The defence then shifted focus to an incident where the husband allegedly threatened Nundwe with a gun.

According to the husband, he had left the house to retrieve the gun, prompting Nundwe to flee.

The defence suggested that this threat constituted blackmail, but the husband denied using the gun to intimidate Nundwe into undressing, as claimed by the defence.

The court also heard that the husband had met with Nundwe on two prior occasions, despite initially denying any prior encounters before the court hearings.

As the cross-examination concluded, the defence requested a visit to the scene of the alleged crime to clarify certain issues.

The court adjourned the case to November 21, 2024, for mention and set dates for a scene visit and continuation of the trial from December 3 to 6, 2024.
