The Subordinate Court will now hear the case involving former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili, who has been sued by Lusaka businessman Micah Ng’ombe for allegedly failing to repay a K620,000 loan.
This followed the transfer of the case from the High Court.
In an order transferring the matter, Justice Situmbeko Chocho noted that after reviewing the writ of summons and statement of claim, the plaintiff is seeking damages amounting to K620,000.
Pursuant to Statutory Instrument No. 120 of 2024, which amends the civil jurisdiction of subordinate courts, cases involving amounts below K1 million are now to be heard by the Subordinate Court.
The High Court only handles claims exceeding this threshold.
Ng’ombe alleged that Kambwili borrowed K620,000 in 2021, promising to repay it within three months, following the general elections.
Court documents revealed that Ng’ombe handed over the money for Kambwili to deliver to the plaintiff’s brother in Luanshya.

However, it is alleged that Kambwili used the funds for personal purposes and later agreed to repay them after the elections but failed to do so.
Despite repeated requests from Ng’ombe, Kambwili has allegedly shown no intention of repaying the loan.
As a result, Ng’ombe was seeking the repayment of the K620,000, along with damages for the inconvenience caused by Kambwili’s failure to fulfill the debt.
Ng’ombe claimed that Kambwili’s actions have caused him financial hardship and emotional distress, prompting him to seek the court’s intervention in recovering the owed sum.
