Heartbreak for Zambia as U-17 women’s World Cup journey ends against Poland

At the Felix Sanchez Stadium in Santo Domingo, Zambia’s U-17 women’s team, the Copper Princesses, suffered a 2-0 defeat against Poland in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Monday, ending their hopes of advancing in the tournament.

Poland, making their debut in the competition, took an early lead in the seventh minute when Kinga Wyrwas headed in a free-kick from Zuzanna Witek, setting the tone for the match.

Despite the early setback, the Copper Princesses showed determination, pressing forward and creating several chances but were unable to convert.

Zambia’s defense held firm for most of the first half, but the early goal left them vulnerable.

Just 12 seconds into the second half, Poland doubled their lead as Krystyna Flis broke down the left wing and delivered a cross to Weronika Arasniewicz, who tapped in from close range.

Though Zambia pushed for a comeback, they were unable to breach Poland’s solid defense.

Poland nearly added a third goal, hitting the post midway through the half, but the final whistle sealed Zambia’s 2-0 defeat and eliminated them from the tournament.

For Poland, the win boosted their chances of reaching the quarterfinals, while Zambia’s World Cup journey came to a heartbreaking end.
