Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Elias Mubanga, has emphasized the need for technical expertise in solar equipment installation, urging skilled professionals to drive growth in Zambia’s renewable energy sector.

Speaking at a training programme for sales and installation agents at Lusaka’s Best Western Hotel on Monday, Mubanga highlighted the critical role solar energy plays in Zambia’s economic development.

“Zambia is at a crucial juncture, and the renewable energy sector, particularly solar, holds immense potential to boost economic growth,” he said.

The minister noted that the high demand for solar services required a workforce equipped with the right technical skills to ensure quality installations. Mubanga also pointed out that such training initiatives not only meet immediate technical needs but also pave the way for self-sustaining businesses in the sector.

“Today’s event is more than just another skills development programme,” Mubanga said.

He said: “It is about fostering entrepreneurship, driving Zambia’s energy transition, and building sustainable futures for every participant.”

Mubanga urged attendees to embrace the entrepreneurial mindset promoted through the training, encouraging them to use their new skills to position themselves as both professionals and business owners.

He stressed that entrepreneurship played a pivotal role in shaping Zambia’s economic landscape, especially in addressing energy deficiencies through innovative solutions.

“This training is an excellent example of how we can move toward a future powered by entrepreneurship and innovation,” Mubanga said.
