Chingola mourns Kambwili brothers, as pastor Mwewa urges national unity

Following a church service at Chingola Central Seventh-day Adventist Church, attended by former President Edgar Lungu, the brothers of Chishimba Kambwili, Mutale and Mwamba, were laid to rest at Chingola Central Cemetery.

During the service, SDA Northern Union Conference Executive Secretary Pastor, Emmanuel Mwewa, emphasized the importance of unity.

Pastor Mwewa said the devil cannot win for ever as shown by many biblical passages where God’s people triumphed despite many tribulations like death and sickness.

He stated: “The church cannot join in divisions in society; the Church is the salt of the world.”

Pastor Mwewa asserted that true unity in Zambia would come from the people following God, not from politicians, and urged attendees to unite as brothers and sisters.

The cleric warned mourners about the devil appearing victorious, referencing how King Herod celebrated while persecuting the church.

“At that very moment, God sent an angel to strike him dead. Even in death, we should remember that God is there to uplift the afflicted,” he said.

Pastor Mwewa called on the church to bring sanity to the world, emphasizing that it was the faithful’s responsibility to cling to God’s word.

Hundreds attended the funeral, with Lungu attracting significant attention after the service.

Residents gathered outside the church to catch a glimpse of the former head of state.

As he exited the building, he was greeted by chants of “Lungu! Lungu!” and raised his fists in the air, a symbol of the Patriotic Front (PF), before quickly departing.

Accompanying former President Lungu were PF Vice President Given Lubinda, former Finance Minister Bwalya Ng’andu, and Secretary-General Raphael Nakachinda.

Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Chipoka Mulenga, and Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kwana but were reportedly snubbed by Lubinda but managed to shake hands with the former Head of State.

Mutale and Mwamba Kambwili died in a road traffic accident, alongside former Minister Kambwili’s lawyer, Kennedy Mambwe, and driver Kennedy Mwila, who are currently receiving treatment at the University Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, Kambwili remained in critical condition at Maina Soko Military Hospital.
