Former Minister of Home Affairs, Stephen Kampyongo, is recovering from minor injuries sustained in a road traffic accident that occurred near State House on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
According to Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, the accident took place around 11:00 hours at the intersection of Independence Avenue and President’s Lane.
Kampyongo was driving his Toyota Hilux when a government vehicle, operated by 60-year-old Ezron Moono, failed to yield the right of way, resulting in a collision.
Chilabi detailed that the impact caused significant damage to both vehicles.
“The Toyota Hilux driven by Kampyongo has substantial damage, while the GRZ vehicle driven by Mr. Moono, which was joining Independence Avenue from President’s Lane, sustained considerable damage to both doors,” he explained.
Fortunately, both Kampyongo and Moono are reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
Chilabi confirmed that the police have initiated further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Kampyongo served as the Minister of Home Affairs from 2016 to 2021 and is known for his role in various government initiatives during his tenure.
This accident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in urban areas, especially involving public figures and government vehicles.
