ZESCO warns of probable reduction in three-hour supply of electricity, as energy firm undergoes maintenance

0

ZESCO Limited has announced a temporary reduction of 150 megawatts in the national grid supply due to unforeseen corrective maintenance at Maamba Energy Limited (MEL).

Corporation spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, stated that a technical fault at MEL necessitated the maintenance.

“This has resulted in the temporary reduction of the available national power generation by 150 Megawatts. The maintenance is expected to last for one week, 20 to 27 October, reducing the power generation capacity in this period,” he added.

Maumbi warned that this could disrupt the 3-hour power supply schedule in residential areas for seven days starting Sunday.

“MEL had to undertake corrective maintenance on one of its two generators,” he explained.

Despite the challenges, Maumbi emphasized that ZESCO would strive to uphold the 3-hour supply schedule by optimizing power imports and collaborating with independent power producers where possible.

“MEL is working diligently to complete the maintenance and restore normal generation as soon as possible.

“ZESCO was closely collaborating with all partners to minimize disruptions and ensure a timely return to normal operations,” he added.
