President Hakainde Hichilema has revealed plans to officially announce the reopening of the Kasenseli gold mine in North-Western Province within the next 30 days.
Additionally, he will launch road projects in Mutanda, Kasempa, and Kaoma.
Speaking at the Nsakwa ya Bakaonde ceremony in Kasempa on Saturday, President Hichilema also disclosed that the Kalengwe mine would open within the same period.
Furthermore, he revealed plans to return to the province in 15 days to launch the construction of Solwezi hospital, as funding for the project had already been secured.
Hichilema questioned why previous administrations failed to harness the region’s rich natural resources to drive national development.
“I keep asking myself why previous governments never exploited these resources, but I think I have the answers,” he said.
He said the United Party for National Development (UPND) government’s was committed to fast-tracking development in the province, ensuring that local communities benefit from their natural resources.
The President also expressed gratitude to the people for supporting the UPND, noting that three years ago, the country was on a dangerous path, with incidents of violence among children.
He stressed that peace, unity, and love were essential for national progress, adding that Zambia could have advanced significantly over the past decade if its people had worked together.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema criticized opposition parties for claiming they could return to power despite their failure to deliver development during their decade in government.
