The Cotton Board of Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the competitiveness of Zambian cotton in the global market.
Board Chairperson, Raymond Mpundu, stated the crucial role of farmers in transforming the country’s cotton industry.
Speaking during a multi-stakeholder dialogue meeting at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka on Friday, Mpundu underscored the importance of farmer participation in price negotiations, arguing that this would empower producers and promote long-term sustainability in the cotton sector.
“There is a need to listen to farmers and give them a voice in determining the value of their cotton because it is only by working together that we can create a thriving cotton industry that benefits everyone involved,” he said.
He noted that new regulations and laws within the cotton sector would ensure that price negotiations were conducted fairly.
Mpundu also stressed the importance of the cotton industry to Zambia’s economy and expressed a determination to address the systemic issues that have hindered its growth and development.
