President Katerina Sakellaropoulou of Greece has voiced concerns over global issues such as intolerance, extremism, immigration and climate change during a ceremony in Rome on Thursday.

She emphasized Greece’s role as a stabilising force in Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean, committed to peaceful conflict resolution and regional security.

The event marked the presentation of credentials by Zambia’s Ambassador to Italy, Patricia Kondolo, alongside other non-resident ambassadors.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Sakellaropoulou welcomed the ambassadors and expressed Greece’s support for their diplomatic missions, hoping to strengthen bilateral ties.

Ambassador Kondolo congratulated Greece on its election to the UN Security Council for 2025-2026 and pledged Zambia’s support during Greece’s tenure.

Kondolo also urged Greece to back Africa’s call for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

She thanked Greece, as an EU member, for renewed EU budget support to Zambia, which she noted would help address the country’s economic and social challenges, including food and energy insecurity caused by recent droughts.

Kondolo also acknowledged Greece’s efforts in combating climate change.

In addition, Kondolo officially inaugurated the new office of the Honorary Consul of Zambia to Greece during her visit.
