Former Defence Minister, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, is set to appeal against his five-year sentence.
He was convicted of conflict of interest and possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Magistrate Stanford Ngobola had also fined Mwamba K50,000 for money laundering, with a default sentence of nine months imprisonment.
Mwamba’s legal team had raised eight grounds of appeal, arguing that the court erred in convicting him under the Anti-Corruption Act.
He contended that his interest had been declared and the matter previously closed after an earlier investigation.
Mwamba also disputed the court’s ruling on his business dealings with Curzon Global, claiming the contracts were valid and completed, with payments made according to a High Court judgment.
His appeal would be heard next Wednesday.
In the initial ruling, Magistrate Ngobola found Mwamba guilty of conflict of interest, citing his daughter’s involvement with Curzon Global Zambia.
