Ex-minister, Kambwili, reportedly loses 2 brothers in fatal accident

Former Information Minister, Chishimba Kambwili, has reportedly been involved in a fatal accident which claimed the lives of his two brothers.

Zambia Monitor learnt on Tuesday that the accident involving Kambwili, his family member and lawyer happened near Kasama in Northern Province.

Northern Province Police Chief, Lucky Munkhondya, referred all media queries to police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga.

“Details will be availed to you by our National spokesperson Mr Rae Hamoonga shortly,” said Munkhondya in response to media queries .

Kambwili and his lawyer are said to be admitted to Munkonge Mini Hospital in Kasama.

He was reportedly travelling to Kasama for his court case.

Police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed a fatal road accident involving former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili, which claimed the lives of his two brothers, Mutale Kambwili and Mwamba Kambwili, who were traveling with him en route to Kasama.

The accident occurred on Tuesday in the Lubushi area, about 65 kilometers from Luwingu Town along the Luwingu-Kasama road.

According to Hamoonga, the crash was caused by excessive speed, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which overturned.

Mutale and Mwamba Kambwili sustained fatal head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their bodies are currently at Luwingu mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Survivors of the crash, including Chishimba Kambwili, his lawyer Kennedy Mambwe, and the driver, Kennedy Mwila, were taken to Kasama General Hospital with various injuries.

Kambwili sustained a bruised left leg and general body pains, while Mwila suffered a fractured right arm.

Mambwe sustained head injuries and a bruised right arm.

The vehicle was extensively damaged and remained at the scene pending further investigation.

Hamoonga urged road users to adhere to speed limits to avoid similar tragedies.

The accident marked the fourth serious road crash involving Kambwili in the past seven years, sparking social media discussion.
