Eight players from Zambia’s national soccer team have been sidelined due to injuries ahead of Tuesday’s Group G AFCON qualifier against Chad.

The injured list included Patson Daka, Edward Chilufya, Lameck Banda, Lubambo Musonda, Stoppilla Sunzu, Lawrence Mulenga, Clatous Chama, and Evans Kangwa, leaving the team short-handed.

The Chipolopolo boys have set up camp in Yaoundé as they prepare for the qualifier, which could be crucial to maintaining their second-place position in the group.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, Andrew Kamanga, assured fans that the team had strong replacements ready to step up.

“This presents a perfect opportunity for the replacements to rise to the occasion,” Kamanga said, adding that despite the setbacks, the team is focused on securing back-to-back AFCON qualifications.

Kamanga also emphasized the importance of fans’ support, urging them to rally behind the team.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s under-17 women’s national team began their FIFA World Cup campaign in Santo Domingo with a match against Brazil.

Kamanga expressed confidence in their future, noting the potential to develop future Copper Queens stars.

Additionally, Kamanga congratulated Zambia’s under-15 boys’ schools team for finishing as runners-up at the Cosafa CAF Schools tournament in Namibia.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the ministries of education and sports, which prevented the girls’ team from participating in the tournament.
