Zambia and Chad fought to a 0-0 draw in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Group G qualifier on Friday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, with the Chipolopolo dominating possession but failing to convert their chances.

Zambia began the match with intent, controlling the tempo from the first whistle.

Midfielder Kelvin Kampamba had the first clear opportunity in the 10th minute when he unleashed a powerful long-range shot, but Chad’s goalkeeper Gabin Allahbatnan pulled off a crucial save to deny Zambia an early lead.

The hosts continued to pile on the pressure, pinning Chad in their own half for much of the first half.

Zambia’s forward Kennedy Musonda was a constant threat, leading the attack with surging runs.

Despite dominating possession, Zambia struggled to break through Chad’s organized defense.

In the 30th minute, Musonda missed a golden opportunity to put Zambia ahead, misdirecting a header that could have opened the scoring.

The Chipolopolo kept pushing but were unable to convert their territorial advantage into goals before the halftime whistle, with the scoreline still 0-0.

After the break, Zambia picked up where they left off, relentlessly pressing forward.

Musonda had another clear chance in the 53rd minute but was again unable to find the back of the net.

The home side dominated possession, but Chad’s defense held firm under sustained pressure.

As the match wore on, Zambia grew increasingly frustrated, with Chad content to sit back and absorb the pressure.

The Chipolopolo continued to attack in waves, and in the final 10 minutes, they ramped up their efforts, creating several chances.

However, Allahbatnan and the Chad defense managed to hold off the Zambian onslaught, keeping the match scoreless.

Despite their dominance, Zambia was unable to find the breakthrough they desperately sought, and the match ended in a goalless draw.

Chad’s resilient performance earned them a valuable point, while Zambia would rue their missed opportunities as they continue their campaign to qualify for AFCON 2025.

The result leaves Zambia with work to do in their upcoming qualifiers if they are to secure their place in the tournament, while Chad would be encouraged by their ability to hold off a dominant Zambian side.
