The Global Fund Initiative has invested K28.5 million in the construction of boarding facilities under the Ministry of Education across all 10 provinces of Zambia, aimed at improving access to quality education, especially for girls in rural areas.

Global Fund Initiative Coordinator, Mwansa Chitundu, speaking ahead of World Teachers’ Day slated for October 5, told Zambia Monitor in an interview on Monday that the new facilities were designed to provide safe and conducive living conditions, thereby increasing enrollment and retention rates among girls and fostering academic growth.

“On this Teachers’ Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all educators for their dedication. We appreciate the tireless efforts of our teachers in shaping the future leaders of Zambia,” Chitundu stated.

Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, praised the progress in the education sector, attributing much of the success to the contributions of teachers.

He encouraged the public to celebrate their achievements, emphasizing the importance of self-reflection and personal growth for both individuals and the nation.

Ministry Permanent Secretary for Education Services, Joel Kamoko, urged teachers to use their influential role to tackle societal issues like climate change and promote positive change.

This year’s World Teachers’ Day theme is “Empowering Educators: Strengthening Resilience, Building Sustainability.”
