The Zambia Police Service has denied reports that officers were searching for former President Edgar Lungu at the farms of Martin Mtonga and Munir Zulu in Lundazi and Lumezi.

In a statement issued Monday, Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, dismissed rumours that police had sealed off Kanele and other areas in Lundazi in search of the former President.

“As a professional law enforcement agency, we conduct all operations with integrity, transparency and adherence to the law,” Hamoonga said.

He added that: “These reports are entirely baseless and fabricated to mislead the public.”

Hamoonga clarified that no officers were dispatched to search for Lungu at the mentioned locations, nor were any areas sealed off.

“Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is currently in Lusaka and the Zambia Police Service is fully aware of his whereabouts,” he stated.

Hamoonga urged the public and media outlets to avoid spreading unverified information that could cause panic, calling on people to rely on official police communications for accurate updates.
