The Socialist Party has re-elected, Dr Fred M’membe, as President, alongside Dr. Cosmas Musumali as Vice President and General-Secretary.
The announcement was made at Bellevue Events in Lusaka on Sunday.
In his re-election address, M’membe underscored the importance of forming strategic, permanent alliances with authentic leaders, including traditional, religious, and trade union figures.
He stressed that these alliances should not be mere tactical or opportunistic arrangements but should be rooted in a strong moral and ethical commitment to defending the poor.
M’membe differentiated between these enduring alliances and temporary political alliances aimed solely at defeating President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND in the 2026 elections.
He acknowledged the necessity of careful engagement with such temporary alliances but cautioned against the pitfalls of evasions, illusions, and opportunism.
“No true alliance can be built on the shifting sands of evasions and opportunism,” M’membe stated.
He stated that the strength of the Socialist Party lies not in wealth or resources but in its moral foundation and its commitment to rational and humane organization of society.

Additionally, M’membe called for the decolonization, liberation and independence of Western Sahara, describing it as Africa’s last remaining colony.
He joined voices with Cuba in demanding an immediate end to the U.S. embargo, condemning the embargo and the U.S. interventionist actions since the Cuban revolution began.
“We stand with the Cuban people’s right to determine their own future without imperialist interference,” M’membe declared.
He also expressed solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people, praising their support for the revolution initiated by Comandante Hugo Chávez over 25 years ago.
