Zambia National Team Coach, Avram Grant, has expressed confidence ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Ivory Coast.
Despite the absence of key players like Patson Daka, Frankie, and Kelvin, who recently lost his mother, Grant praised the team’s spirit and determination during a media briefing in Lusaka on Friday.
“The team has settled well, and everyone gave their best. We had a long flight, but today’s training was good, and we’re looking forward to the game on Friday,” Grant said.
He emphasized that the team’s goal was to qualify for the AFCON a second consecutive time.
“We have six games ahead, and whether we win or lose, nothing will be decided in the first game. Our target is to be among the top two teams that will qualify for AFCON,” Grant added.
He acknowledged the strength of the Ivorian team but highlighted Zambia’s determination.
“We respect them greatly, but we want to show that Zambia has both a present and a future. We have young players eager to prove themselves and we will never give up.”
The match against Ivory Coast will be held at the Stade de la Paix in Abidjan on Friday, September 6, starting at 18:00 GMT.
Zambia will then face Sierra Leone on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in Ndola.
