Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, Andrew Kamanga, has filed a defamation lawsuit against his former General-Secretary, Adrian Kashala, and Sports Minister, Elvis Nkandu, seeking damages for harm to his reputation.
Kamanga alleged that public accusations and a sustained campaign against his leadership have subjected him to ridicule, professional damage and emotional distress.
He accused Kashala and Nkandu of orchestrating a malicious effort to undermine his authority as FAZ president and tarnish his image.
According to the lawsuit filed in the Lusaka High Court, Kamanga claimed that Kashala, during his tenure as FAZ General-Secretary, awarded contracts to questionable entities without proper due diligence, leading to project delays and financial mismanagement that damaged the reputation of the football governing body.
Kamanga also accused Minister Nkandu of attempting to reinstate former FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya into a supervisory role over national teams, which he expressed believe further undermined his leadership.
The lawsuit details multiple instances of alleged defamation, including false accusations and unsubstantiated public statements by both Kashala and Nkandu.
Kamanga asserted that the duo had been working together to create an alternative leadership structure within Zambian football, deepening divisions within the organisation.
Kamanga further alleged that Nkandu had been advocating for Kashala and MUZA Football Club chairperson, Keith Mweemba, as potential replacements for his leadership.
In addition to damages, Kamanga is seeking a court order for Kashala and Nkandu to cover all legal costs associated with defending his reputation in the ongoing case.
