Chipolopolo midfielder, Lubambo Musonda, has expressed strong confidence in the team’s chances as they prepare to face the Elephants of Ivory Coast in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match this Friday.
The Chipolopolo squad is currently in Ivory Coast, where they will play this pivotal game before returning to Zambia to face Sierra Leone on Tuesday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola as part of back-to-back qualifiers.
Musonda, who plays for German Bundesliga 2 side Magdeburg, joined the camp yesterday alongside Miguel Chaiwa of Young Boys in Switzerland and Benson Sakala, who plays for Czech side Mladá Boleslav.

The 29-year-old midfielder expressed confidence in the team’s preparations and their ability to take on Ivory Coast.
“It’s a good thing to meet after a long time. We have a lot of things that we are supposed to catch up with and work on. We have entered camp to ensure that we work hard and achieve what we want at the end of the day,” Musonda said.
He stated the importance of hard work and team cohesion, noting that while the game would be challenging, the Chipolopolo are determined to give their best effort.
“It’s all about hard work; we need to improve on many things, and we believe in the team. I believe everyone understands what we want. It will not be an easy game. They are also aware of us and what we can do. It’s about having confidence in ourselves and going there to do the best that we can,” he added.
Musonda also touched on the importance of fan support and mental health, urging players to focus on positive feedback and constructive criticism.
“Sometimes, there are things that you can take in from the fans and things that we cannot take, that you know they are not good for your mental health and it’s not good in any way. Of course, we listen to what the fans say, especially if it’s positive criticism, and we work on our weaknesses,” he noted.
As the Chipolopolo gear up for these crucial qualifiers, Musonda’s confidence reflects the team’s readiness and determination to secure their spot in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
