The Lusaka Avocado Multipurpose Cooperative Society (LAMCS) has secured a significant agreement with Polish company, Grupa Producentow Rolnych (GPR)–DOBROL, marking a major milestone in Zambian agriculture.

The deal, formalised in Lusaka on Wednesday, would see LAMCS export 320 tonnes of avocados and 20,000 kilogrammes of avocado oil to Poland starting in March 2025.

Benard Chiwala, the Board Chairperson of LAMCS, signed the agreement on behalf of the cooperative, while GPR-DOBROL was represented by directors Zajkowski Tomasz, Kujawski Andrzej, and Majewski Marci Tomasz.

Chiwala described the agreement as one of the cooperative’s key achievements for 2024.

He noted that GPR-DOBROL was introduced to LAMCS by Zambian Ambassador to Germany, Winnie Chibesakunda.

LAMCS, established in March 2021, aims to promote the commercial cultivation of avocados in Zambia.

The organization is currently developing an avocado plantation in Kawambwa, located in Chief Munkanta’s Chiefdom of Luapula Province.

Chiwala explained that LAMCS is serving as the main aggregator, providing market opportunities for its members who are involved in avocado farming.

He encouraged other farmers interested in avocado cultivation to join the cooperative and be part of what he termed the “Green Gold revolution.”

The agreement with GPR-DOBROL is expected to boost Zambia’s avocado industry by opening new export markets and enhancing the cooperative’s capacity to support its members in the growing avocado sector.
