Boxing sensation Patrick ‘Baddo’ Chinyemba has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the IBA Champions Night, scheduled for Saturday.
Chinyemba is expected to face Ghana’s Theo Allotey in an eight-round bout for the IBA Africa flyweight title.
The fight would headline the event, which showcases other rising African boxing talents.
The IBA Champions Night, marking its first-ever event in Africa, run in a professional boxing format and includes prize money for the participants.
Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) President, Eyassu Berhanu, hailed the event as a landmark moment for the sport on the continent.
“This is a historic day for African boxing and a significant milestone during my tenure as AFBC President,” Berhanu told AFBC Communications in Addis Ababa.
“We’re excited to offer this thrilling experience to African boxing fans. A big welcome to all our visitors, and our heartfelt thanks to the high-ranking IBA guests who made this possible,” Berhanu said.
Chinyemba recently competed in the Paris Olympics, where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Men’s 51 kg bout, losing to Cape Verde’s David de Pina via unanimous points decision.
