Orlando Pride midfielder, Chanda, ruled out for season after injury at Paris Olympics

Orlando Pride midfielder, Grace Chanda, has been placed on the Season Ending Injury list after rupturing her quadriceps tendon in her right leg during Zambia’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics, the club announced on Wednesday.

Upon her return to Orlando, Chanda began working closely with the Pride’s medical team and Orlando Health partners to develop a comprehensive recovery and rehabilitation plan.

This update was provided in a statement issued in Orlando on Wednesday by the Orlando Pride’s communications team.

Orlando Pride VP of Soccer Operations and General Manager, Haley Carter, expressed her disappointment over the injury and its timing.

“Fortunately, she is under the best possible care with our medical and performance teams here at the Club and through Orlando Health,” Carter said.

She emphasized that while Chanda’s debut in purple would be delayed, it was crucial for the club to prioritise her health and ensure a safe, responsible return to the pitch.

“We’re behind Grace every step of the way and will support her throughout the entire recovery process. With our investment, resources and performance environment, Grace will come out of this stronger and ready to make an impact in 2025,” Carter added.

Chanda was originally scheduled to join the Pride after Zambia’s campaign in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

She signed a contract in May that runs through the 2025 season, with a mutual option for 2026.

Before signing with Orlando Pride, Chanda played for Madrid CFF in Spain’s top-tier Liga F and was one of three finalists for the African Women’s Footballer of the Year award in 2022.
