The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has suspended water packaging operations at Humanism Bakery and Takeaway in Lusaka’s old Soweto Market due to unhygienic conditions, which violate the Compulsory Standard Act No. 3 of 2017.

In a statement released on Wednesday, ZCSA Acting Head of Communications, Onishias Maamba, announced the seizure of 80 cases of Supreme-branded water, valued at K1,200, from the premises.

This enforcement action followed a complaint alleging that the company was producing and distributing packaged water illegally.

“ZCSA warns of stern action against entities and individuals producing packaged water and other beverages without adhering to prescribed compulsory standards, as such products may pose a risk to the health of consumers,” Maamba cautioned.

He said that products covered by compulsory standards, including packaged water, are only permitted on the market after receiving authorization from the Agency.

“The Agency has intensified enforcement activities on all regulated products to ensure consumer safety,” Maamba added.

As the hot season approaches and demand for water increases, Maamba urged consumers to purchase packaged water only from reputable sources.
