President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the Danish government to consider establishing an embassy in Zambia to further strengthen the long-standing relations between the two nations.
Hichilema emphasized that having a Danish embassy in Zambia would enhance bilateral relations and foster greater collaboration.
He made the appeal during a ceremony at State House in Lusaka on Friday, where he received letters of credence from the new Danish Ambassador to Zambia, Elsebeth Krone.
The President reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to promoting peace, security and stability, noting that these principles are crucial for driving economic and social development.
“Zambia and Denmark have enjoyed warm bilateral relations since before our nation’s independence, thanks to Denmark’s support for our freedom struggle and economic development,” Hichilema stated.

He praised Denmark’s contributions to various sectors of Zambia’s economy and highlighted the strengthening of relations between the two countries, which are built on the pillars of economic diplomacy, peace, and security.
Hichilema also expressed satisfaction with the appointment of Ambassador Krone by King Frederik X and looked forward to the establishment of a Danish embassy in Zambia.
In her remarks, Krone commended Zambia for ratifying the Paris Global Climate Agreement, underscoring the country’s dedication to combating climate change.
She highlighted the importance of global unity in addressing environmental challenges and building climate resilience.
Krone also expressed her commitment to enhancing the strong relationship between Denmark and Zambia throughout her tenure as ambassador.
