The government has attributed ZESCO Limited’s power rationing outside planned schedules to the misuse of electricity by consumers.
Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote, urged ZESCO customers to use electricity responsibly while the government implements sustainable measures to address the electricity crisis.
The Minister made these remarks during a media briefing in Lusaka on Thursday.

“During this electricity crisis, the utility continues to face several challenges affecting its ability to generate sufficient power,” Chikote pointed out.
He mentioned that ZESCO was compelled to ration power to ensure that critical institutions continued to receive electricity.
Chikote explained that ZESCO supplies a specific amount of power to customers grouped according to their locations.
“When consumption exceeds the allocated amount at a particular time, ZESCO disconnects power outside the scheduled time,” he added.
The Minister also stated that load shedding was expected to end by December, as the government was implementing measures to address the crisis.
