President Hakainde Hichilema has urged financial institutions to respond to the drought situation in the country.
Hichilema said it was important for them to prioritize easing access to finance for irrigation agriculture to enhance the country’s food security.
Speaking in Lusaka on Thursday at the launch of the new First Capital Bank head office, he highlighted solar energy as a key solution to the power crisis and stressed the importance of financing such alternatives.
Hichilema praised the bank for its strong presence in the SADC region and encouraged it to leverage business opportunities arising from Zambia’s energy partnerships.
He noted the potential of regional electricity interconnectors to facilitate power trade and invited the bank to capitalize on projects like the Tanzania-Zambia Interconnector.

First Capital Bank Chairperson, Mark O’Donnell, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to Zambia’s economic development and empowerment of local enterprises.
He expressed enthusiasm for supporting Zambian businesses and contributing to the country’s growth.
Interim Chief Executive Officer, Andre Potgieter, announced that the new facility incorporates environmentally friendly features to combat climate change.
