The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Truck Drivers Association has endorsed the calls by local truck drivers to protest against the poor working conditions imposed by the government.
Eugene Ndlovu, President of the SADC Truck Drivers Association, expressed his support for the drivers, citing the failure of key stakeholders to address these issues in a timely manner.
“I think it is not a secret. I have personally been on radio and TV appealing to the government. Currently, the truck drivers are subjected to pathetic conditions,” Ndlovu said in an interview with journalists on Saturday.
“We are sort of entertaining a ticking time bomb, so they will revolt and protest for their rights.”

Ndlovu claimed that the government had failed to expedite the process of improving the drivers’ conditions.
“The cries of the drivers are very much genuine; it’s long overdue. The government should expedite the process of coming up with befitting minimum wages for the sector,” he said.
Ndlovu noted that the threat of a protest comes as no surprise.
“The people are sick and tired of this reluctance to address their issues,” he stated.
